Cold Water Plunge
Bude Sea Pool
Arguably the biggest and best semi-natural swimming pool the UK has to offer?
Bude Sea Pool is nestled between two fantastic beaches, namely the Crooklets and Summerleaze, which can be found on the North Cornwall Coast. The pool itself is 91m long and 45m wide, the perfect safe haven for all swimmers and water users.
Charity Run
The pool can be accessed all year round and is manned by volunteers.
At high tide the pool is topped up and at low tide it stays full due to the retaining walls and a lock gate style outlet for when repairs are being undertaken.
Check out the charities incredible work below.
-
Is it free to use?
There is no admission fee, although donations are welcome to Friends of Bude Sea Pool.
-
Where can I change?
If you don't have a changing robe or would prefer some privacy, there is a family and individual changing hut available.
-
Can I swim at high tide?
No, there is strong advice not to enter the sea pool at high tide due to waves entering over the retraining wall which makes the conditions extremely dangerous!
-
Can I swim in the winter?
If you're brave enough! It is highly recommended that you start going a couple of times a week from September to build up exposure and resilience first.
Getting There
Parking... It is recommended that you use Summerleaze or Crooklets car parks, however they incur a small charge.
Summerleaze - EX23 8HJ
Crooklets - EX23 8NF
If you're going to be less than 90 minutes, you can always whack your car in Sainsburys car park, but we didn't tell you that...
Health Benefits
Overall Health
Helps to improve your immune system, metabolism and circulation!
Aches and Pains
There's a reason athletes love cold water therapy - it helps to reduce muscle soreness and enhances recovery following exercise.
The cold water is also beneficial for reducing both short-term and long-term pain!
Your Mind
It is well known that cold water therapy is the ideal mood booster - plus it can also help you have a deeper sleep!
**Cold Water Shock**
It is a series of involuntary reactions that occur when the body is suddenly immersed in cold water.
The cold water can trigger involuntary gasping, rapid breathing or hyperventilating due to the "shock" of sudden immersion. This uncontrolled rapid breathing can quickly create a drowning emergency if you inhale water and cannot stay afloat.
The cold water can also cause a sudden spike in heart rate and blood pressure.
Please be safe out there and know your limits. If you have any underlying medical conditions, it is advised to check with your doctor before entering any cold water.
Stay safe!
