Grassington

North Yorkshire

This picturesque village is buried deep in the Yorkshire Dales, with a circular walk that guides you through the surrounding countryside offering breath taking views.

The walk itself is 5-6km and takes around 1.5/2 hours to complete - making it the perfect choice for all levels of walkers.

Getting There

You will want to head to the car cark:

The National Park Visitor Centre, Hebden Rd, Grassington, BD23 5LB

Let's Begin...

Leave the car park through the main entrance, whack a left and head back to Grassington village centre.

As the road swings left, head to the right up Main St. and keep right as the road forks. Follow the street up past the Folk Museum.

At the top, take a left where you will pass the Town Head B&B before reaching the road junction. You want to take a right from there before left up High Lane, it should be signed as a footpath to Hebden.

Keep your eyes peeled for the first stile into the field on your left (just after a gate).

Lunch Spot...

Once in the field, you want to head up to the right along the path to the next stile.

From here you are to head right in the same direction, until you reach the fifth field.

If, however, you can't control your hunger and need a quick pit stop, you will see at the top of the field an old ruin shown in the photo!

After the fifth field, the path becomes a little more subtle. Look out for a small stone barn, Wise House, to guide you.

From there you want to keep heading straight to the gated squeezed stile in the corner. Follow the path and you will come out at an access road between a cottage on the left and an outbuilding on the right.

Many Gates Later

Keep heading straight towards the woods, where you will see an awesome zip line!

You're going to head down into the woods with the stone wall on your left and follow the path until you reach the stile in the photo which takes you into a final field before a road.

You want to turn right at the road, and look out for a gate on your left which takes you into the next fields.

The next fields are easier to navigate, just keep heading right and through the gates until you reach a further property. Look out for the footpath sign on the stone wall closest to the property.

You will walk past the property and down a steep slope, to another gate that takes you back into the open where you will find a paved road.

Quick Pit Stop

Follow the paved road which will lead you down to the river.

To your right you will see a gate that leads to a number of properties. Keep following it round until you reach a gate with steps down onto another path.

Follow this path until you are walking parallel to the river, where you will find the perfect stone skimming spot.

See if you can beat 8 skims...

Stroll Back

Head back onto the path, and keep following it until you reach the bridge on your left that crosses into the neighbouring village.

At this junction, you want to take a right up a narrow path flanked by stone walls, as in the photo.

This path will take you all the way back up to the car park and Grassington Village where you can grab a hot chocolate and a cake before heading home!
